Water Treatment System to meet US Pharmacopoeia (USP) Standard for Comprehensive Blending, Packaging, and Distribution

Customer Description

Our customer is among the Midwest’s largest comprehensive blending, packaging, and distribution companies. They operate nationally and internationally serving accounts with widely varying requirements.

The Challenge

Our customer had to meet strict requirements to meet the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Standard. The USP standard is utilized for pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, dietary supplements, and other products critical to public health. The customer plans to utilize the water for a new hospital disinfectant that they will package in Milwaukee.

Total Water’s Solution

Total Water designed a system to cost-effectively meet and exceed the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) water standards. The system was balance-engineered with a reverse osmosis system and a large atmospherically vented storage vessel. The two components combined were sized to handle the large intermittent usage requirements of the customers packaging process. The process water is repressurized with two multi-staged centrifugal pumps and polished with high-purity medical-grade deionizers. UV (ultraviolet disinfection) units are engineered into the system for ongoing bacteria/endotoxin control followed by final filtration. A temperature compensated water quality meter is installed for immediate and ongoing validation of the system water quality.
